Creative Director

Description:

Summary: Directs and leads the creative vision for the company, reporting to the Vice President of Marketing. Responsible for managing, maintaining & creating a powerful brand presence for lynda.com and delivering creative excellence at every consumer touch point. Responsible for the overall ideation, coordination and development of all creative assets across all design mediums. The Creative Director will create and sustain an environment of creative and professional excellence that drives brand awareness, sales growth, & customer experience utilizing top class external and internal resources to achieve their goals.

Ventura, CA with move to Carpinteria, CA around 7/2009

Principle Accountabilities:

Leadership and Vision
  • Provide thought leadership and creative vision for the company.
  • Create and guide a Creative Steering Committee on branding standards.
  • Collaboratively build a strong and cohesive creative roadmap for the company.
Branding
  • Responsible for creatively articulating the lynda.com brand strategy and actualizing that brand strategy across all design mediums.
  • Implement new and innovative ideas and designs to increase the brand’s reach and effectiveness.
  • Oversee creative planning and development across all design mediums to maintain and strengthen brand identity.
  • Drive concepts and strategies through the entire creative and development process into all departments.
Customer Satisfaction, Retention & Acquisition
  • Deliver creative excellence across a variety of mediums (interactive, web, print, video, broadcast) with particular strength in interactive to drive customer satisfaction.
  • Re-engineer lynda.com’s online brand presence to become the brand’s flagship, and so that the site delivers on business objectives (stronger customer satisfaction, longer retention rates, better customer user experience and higher conversion rates among non-members).
  • Creatively translate consumer wants and needs in a way that fuels consumer action (create actionable acquisition levers).
  • Consistently create effective, innovative solutions to Customers, Marketing, Sales and Management initiatives and challenges.
Compliance with the lynda.com Mission Statement & Criteria
  • In partnership with the President, develop and lead creative best practices through all departments within the organization.
  • Ensure the appropriate criteria for creative quality and consistency are maintained.
  • In coordination with the President and the Executive Committee, develop and maintain creative operating standards that ensure high quality creative work, effectively and efficiently delivered.
Internal and External Resource Development
  • Recruit, retain and inspire top class internal creative team.
  • Effectively leverage known diverse, external talent (must have a large rolodex) to provide strong bench strength across all design mediums.
  • Manage internal and external staff on prioritization and execution of assignments across a variety of department requests.
  • Ensure a smooth workflow and allocate creative resources within department and project budgets.
Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Finalize annual budgeting for the Creative area.
  • Make necessary changes to ensure the Creative area is funded in the areas that will provide the most user experience, brand and marketing benefit.
  • Meet the targets of all Key Drivers of the Strategic Plan.
  • Manage internal and external resources to maximize efficiencies while ensuring creative excellence.
Community & Worldwide Responsibilities
  • Elevate the visibility and image of lynda.com’s creative excellence, education, and inspiration globally.
  • Maintain a quality creative and design presence; be the creative ambassador for the company.

Experience and Qualifications:

Knowledge
  • A minimum of 10 years of increasing responsibilities within the creative industry, preferably in the advertising agency or interactive agency setting.  Particular strengths in branding and online marketing/management are critical.
  • Personnel and fiscal management experience.
Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, visual, written and oral.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with supervisor and staff populations.
  • Superior organization, prioritization and self-motivation skills.
  • Strong computer literacy skills.
Abilities
  • Ability to interact effectively either as a leader or as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Ability to strongly articulate your vision and to listen and understand other viewpoints as well.
